!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!

Not entirely true nor am I painting everyone with the same brush but for the most part, I think we live in a society and system that moves so fast and the general pace of life is so high now that anything older than 24 hours might as well be from last century. Even worse, in this business, cars that haven’t even gone on sale yet are being looked past with great expectations and excitement for their future stable mates.

Which is how I arrived here and read this today: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

I’m just as guilty for being excited by metal that hasn’t even seen the light of day yet and may only be the dreams of intrepid writers and journalists filling out their personal wish lists. It’s no crime but one thing struck me while reading the article today.

Take a close look at the Mercedes list. If my math is correct, over the next two years, Mercedes Benz will introduce or update fifteen new and or different models: fifteen! That’s a shit tone!

It’s not impossible for Mercedes, in fact quite the opposite, no mention of MB Commercial or their truck division is anywhere to be found and you can bet the line up there is and will get updating and new models.

!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!

Are Mercedes desperately trying to be all things to all people? Look at some of those models: how big a difference can you see or imagine? Some of the models themselves, do you feel as I do that Mercedes is chasing it’s tale for a very small market niche?

It’s one thing to price your cars in the stratosphere, it’s another to justify the budget and expense for a model that may sell in such small numbers that even boutique manufacturers wouldn’t product it.

Is this all ego and brand entrenchment? Has Mercedes spread itself too thin, actually dilluted the brand and it’s value. Spent some of the cache it built over decades of quality and hard work? I’m not sure and not anywhere prepared to make such a statement but I can’t help but feel that the three pointed star isn’t as shiny or appealing as it once was: maybe I’m totally wrong and it’s helped the brand more than hurt and kept buyers in the family longer and introduced them sooner, I’m not sure.

Let me know what yo think.

Just too bad they won’t give us the regular A-class hatch or a non-electric B-class.

Mercedes is really trying to just keep their line fresh and fill any niches other manufacturers are after. Many of the cars listed are necessary, with the C-coupe needing to be updated to the new chassis, the E-class hasn’t had a major refresh since 2010, the S-cab definately has a place in the market, the SLK has been around for a while as well, and the AMG GT3 is just a hardcore version of a car already on market. The list oddly leave out a few cars too, such as the refreshed GLS, refreshed G wagon, and refreshed B-class.
